ANNETTE'S HERB GARDEN

My Mint List

Mints are great for beginners - easy to grow and safe to use, and a must-have for every herb garden. If planted in the garden they tend to be invasive. It's best to plant them surrounded by a barrier, such as a bucket with the bottom cut off buried in soil with about 2 inches left to protrude from the top. I once used plastic border edging to create a wagon-wheel - the mints stayed well behaved in there. The few that wanted to escape I usually caught in my regular weeding. I know of people who use construction material to contain mints, such as cinder block and terra cotta cylinders. If horror stories of mint gone out of control worry you, it makes a great container plant. Below is a list of the mints in my garden. Some of them are linked to closeup photographs from my 1999 garden - eventually they all will be linked. Keep checking back!
